A waterfall is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena, even a small object where water falls from an insignificant height always attracts the attention of many tourists.
If we talk about the more impressive creations of nature - their very scale can amaze the imagination. Large waterfalls are multi-tiered, and their width sometimes exceeds several kilometers. But what could be their height?
Iguazu Falls
He is called the eighth wonder of the world, and not by chance. After all, his beauty is amazing. This waterfall is located on the border between Brazil and Argentina. At a low height of 82 meters, its width is as much as 4 km, which makes the cascade of waters more impressive than even higher waterfalls. And therefore, in any case, it should appear in the list of the largest.
People noticed an amazing natural attraction a long time ago, in 1541, when they were looking for gold here. The discoverer was Alvaro Caseso, the conquistador.
Waterfall - Victoria
Another famous and impressive in size waterfall is Victoria, it is located between Zambia and Zimbabwe in Africa. With a height of 885 meters, it has a width of 1800 meters, which makes it also an impressive in scope natural object. The facility was opened in 1855, by the efforts of David Linguiston, who confidently stated that such a beautiful waterfall can only be named after Queen Victoria.
Waterfall - Three Sisters
This waterfall is located in Peru, and its name is not accidental. The fact is that the water in it falls down in three tiers, and their total height is 914 meters. This waterfall is hidden by dense and dense vegetation, the trees around reach a height of 30 meters, so not everyone is able to see this natural attraction. To get to the waterfall is problematic, for this you will have to do a multi-day walking path.
Waterfall - Tugela
Three cascades - not too many. The next leader in height has as many as 5 cascades, but the width of the stream is not more than 15 meters. This waterfall is located in South Africa, and its name comes from the Tuger River, which forms it. This is not a wide mountain river, because a waterfall cannot be full of water.
The waterfall is also hidden from prying eyes, you can get to it only along two paths through the jungle. To reach the waterfall, you need to spend at least 6 hours, and this is only one way. Therefore, not many tourists rush to get acquainted with this attraction.
The highest waterfall in the world
The highest waterfall in the world is Angel - 979 meters (twenty times higher than the famous and popular Niagara Falls). It is located in Venezuela, and was opened no more than a century ago. James Angel, his discoverer, was a pilot, and his job was to search for ore. When flying around the area on an airplane as part of such searches in 1933, he discovered a waterfall, and then decided to return to this place, already in 1937. He planned to land on the mountain, but the landing was difficult and the plane received damage that precluded the possibility of take-off. As a result, Angel with his wife and comrades went home 11 days. However, the opening of the waterfall was confirmed.
For decades, he bore the name Angel in honor of his discoverer, but in 2009 the President of Venezuela insisted on renaming the object in favor of sounding his name in the local dialect, and he received the name Kerepakupai-meru. However, the name did not take root, and people still call him Angel.
If some of the previously mentioned waterfalls are located in remote areas, then this is completely unattainable for tourists. To get to it, you must swim along the river or fly air. Getting to it is not easy, and tours of this kind are expensive, but still some tourists dare to see the world's largest waterfall.
Thus, in the world there are many large waterfalls. Some of them reach a width of several kilometers and pass huge volumes of water, while others do not differ in width, but they fall from almost a kilometer high. All of them are exceptionally beautiful - each in its own way.
